It was originally built with a CS43198 ΔΣ chip. Delta Sigma chips are found in many lower-end DAC/AMPs as they offer high bit depth and high performance in terms of manufacturing costs. The price for this is that THD+N and noise are higher than with an R2R chip. For this reason, R2R chips are more difficult to manufacture and often much more expensive. Developing an R2R chip for a low-cost item is not an easy endeavour. Furthermore, the development of a high-resolution R2R chip that supports 384 kHz/24-bit is a new development that is not yet found in entry-level devices. To see R2R in a DAC/amplifier for under $200 is a miracle in itself. What is the difference between R2R and ΔΣ chips, theoretically you can achieve a warmer sound with most R2R DACs without sacrificing the transparency of the higher frequencies. Although the THD+N and noise floor of the K11 and K11 R2R are very similar, you still get less harmonic distortion, resulting in a more natural reproduction of the high frequencies.This means that the R2R has a warmer yet more transparent sound. Other changes include the NJW1195A volume control utilising a resistor ladder potentiometer, meaning a more controlled and consistent volume control. The output power of both units has not changed and you can still drive any headphones you could before. The inputs and outputs have also remained the same. And there is now an OS/NOS mode that allows you to faithfully recreate the waveforms. Summary Rather than just offering listeners a product with a new look, FiiO has decided to drastically improve the quality and internals of its entry-level DAC/AMP. Some companies remake products by sticking a label on them and investing in marketing to offer inferior products at the same price. This is not the case with FiiO, who have made some great technical improvements with the K11 R2R.

Topping U90 USB Bridge - What actually is a USB Bridge and what do I need it for?The main idea behind converting the original digital USB signal into an alternative digital signal is to pre-filter the digital data. This is achieved in the Topping USB Bridge by using a femtoclock oscillator. The optimisation of the digital signal achieves an incredible jitter reduction (see picture description).In addition to the optimisation of the digital signal, the distance to be bridged plays a major role. With conventional USB cables, the data rate to be transmitted decreases after only a few metres. With optical cables, distances of up to 30 metres can be bridged without loss of speed. With USB cables, the data rate for high-resolution data material stops after only a few metres.USB isolationThe USB isolation of the USB connector separates the Topping U90 consequently from the power supply of the computer. Due to multiple circuits and many connected devices, computers have a ground problem that has a negative acoustic effect. The USB Isolator "isolates" this problem.12V TriggerThe Topping U90 has a 12V trigger output.
