Fully powered tubes, Maximum power
The PB6 utilises four Raytheon military-grade JAN6418 pentode vacuum tubes, implemented in a fully symmetrical 4-channel amplifier architecture. iBasso has designed the anode power supply to deliver 22.5 V, ensuring generous headroom and robust dynamic performance. All vacuum tubes are carefully tested and matched by engineers using the APX555 audio test equipment to ensure channel consistency and exceptional sound quality. The fully symmetrical architecture imparts a rich, warm tube character that results in a natural listening experience.
Tube and Class AB dual output modes
Tube character and OPAMP clarity are switchable
The PB6 supports both tube and Class AB dual output modes. In tube mode, four JAN6418 tubes serve as the amplification core, delivering a fine, rich, warm and smooth sound that brings out the exceptional characteristics of vacuum tubes. In Class AB mode, the PB6 utilises a classic OP+BUF headphone amplifier circuit with four BUF634As for current amplification, offering improved resolution and excellent dynamic range.
8.4V high-voltage battery
Higher efficiency and purer power
The PB6 uses an 8.4V high-voltage polymer battery, which significantly improves energy efficiency and transient response. Compared to conventional designs that use a single 3.7V battery, this higher voltage configuration offers a significant advantage in minimising ripple noise typically generated during DC-DC conversion processes, resulting in a purer and more stable power supply. This design enables faithful reproduction of musical nuances and dynamic range, allowing sound details to be fully expressed and significantly outperforming other portable headphone amplifiers.
12V External Power Supply
Desktop-Level Performance
The PB6 supports an external 12V DC power supply, enabling a voltage boost of 24V. When connected to this external power source, the PB6's output power reaches 2300 mW + 2300 mW at 32 Ω, fully utilising its driving power. This allows the PB6 to effortlessly drive full-size headphones and achieve performance comparable to that of high-end desktop headphone amplifiers.
High-precision 4-channel volume control NJW1195A
For perfectly balanced 4-channel output
The PB6 is equipped with a high-precision 4-channel volume control IC – NJW1195A – which allows fine adjustment in 0.5 dB steps. This hardware-based volume control not only enables precise volume control, but also helps to reduce background noise, resulting in a pitch-black background. This design effectively addresses the common problem of channel imbalance at low volumes often associated with conventional carbon potentiometers. As a result, the PB6 ensures consistent balance between the left and right channels across the entire volume range, delivering a more accurate and reliable listening experience.
Selectable high and low bandwidth
Sound customisable to your liking
The PB6 offers two modes for the headphone output stage: high bandwidth and low bandwidth, allowing users to customise their preferred sound character. High bandwidth mode offers excellent transient response with superior control and sound resolution. Low bandwidth mode produces a softer, warmer sound stage. Seamless switching between high and low bandwidth modes caters to the personal listening preferences of audiophiles and makes the listening experience more enjoyable.
PORON suspension damping
Suppresses microphonic effects
To suppress microphonic effects, all four tubes in the PB6 are suspended with PORON damping material, effectively isolating tube vibrations from the sound quality. In addition, a metal mesh shield is attached to the outside of the tubes to effectively block external electromagnetic interference within specific frequency bands.
3.5 mm single-ended input/output
4.4 mm balanced input/output
The PB6 not only offers a 3.5 mm single-ended and a 4.4 mm balanced output, but also supports both 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced inputs. This dual interface design enables some innovative applications: it allows you to connect a source with only a 3.5 mm output to the PB6, achieving a balanced 4.4 mm output and allowing you to benefit from the high resolution and powerful dynamics characteristic of balanced headphone amplifiers.
Charging and battery level indicator
When the green light flashes every second, the PB6 is charging.
When the green light is steady, the battery is 75% to 100% charged.
When the light is blue, the battery is 50% to 75% charged.
When the light is red, the battery is 25% to 50% charged.
When the red light flashes at 1-second intervals, the battery is 5% to 25% charged.
When the red light flashes at 0.3-second intervals, the battery is less than 5% charged.
