The CD Returns to the Modern Desktop Setup
The FiiO DP11 brings your CD collection to your desk and into your hi-fi rack. It functions as a full-fledged CD player with a built-in DAC and analog output, but can also be used as a dedicated CD digital transport connected to an external DAC. Add to that CD ripping and use as a USB DAC: this compact device handles multiple tasks in your setup.
Quiet, precise drive
The CD drive, including the tray, is an in-house development by FiiO. A decoupled drive mount and specially optimized servo firmware are designed to minimize running and loading noises while improving accuracy when reading the disc. The high-quality, smooth-running tray slides in and out quietly, making it ideal for a device placed right next to your workspace or in your listening room.
DAC and Analog Output
A Cirrus Logic CS43198 handles the conversion. The analog stereo output via a pair of RCA jacks delivers 2.2 Vrms. The circuit design is derived from FiiO’s S15 desktop streamer. Clocking is handled by two femtosecond oscillators, and the CD drive, digital section, and analog section are located on separate circuit board sections, each with its own power supply.
The DP11 can also serve as a preamplifier and can be connected directly to active speakers or a power amplifier.
Three Digital Outputs for Your Own DAC
If you already own a preferred DAC, you can use the DP11 purely as a transport. In addition to the coaxial output (up to 24-bit/192 kHz) and the optical output (up to 24-bit/96 kHz), it offers a balanced AES/EBU output via XLR (up to 24-bit/192 kHz)—a feature rarely found in this price range.
MQA CDs are output natively as a bitstream via the optical and coaxial outputs. Decoding is handled by an external, MQA-capable converter.
Rip CDs without a computer
Plug a USB flash drive into the DP11, and the inserted CD can now be saved to it as a lossless WAV file—without needing a PC, external drive, or ripping software. Audio CDs (CDDA). The USB storage device must be formatted in FAT32 and may not exceed 32 GB in size.
Can also be used as a USB DAC
Smartphones, tablets, or computers can be connected to the DP11 via USB, allowing it to function as a USB DAC. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and native DSD256. This way, computer audio and CD playback share a single device.
FiiO’s measured specifications in USB mode: THD+N below 0.00068 percent and a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a deviation of no more than 0.1 dB. During CD playback, THD+N is below 0.0014 percent and the deviation is no more than 1.3 dB.
Design and Power Supply
The retro-style all-metal housing features a 3.71-inch LCD display with a vintage look. The DP11 is conveniently operated using the included infrared remote control. Measuring 213 x 230 x 67 mm and weighing about 1.8 kg, it fits on any desk and visually complements FiiO’s desktop devices.
The DP11 is powered by an internal power supply rated for 100 to 240 V AC. Alternatively, it accepts 12 V DC (at least 2 A) from an external linear power supply, which is not included.
