A compact player for the desktop
The Shanling CD50 is a deliberately reduced desktop CD player, made for anyone who wants to play their CD collection simply and in high quality.
In its compact chassis, measuring 188 × 205 × 53 mm and weighing just around 1.6 kg, it fits on any desk.
The CD tray uses the proven HD850 laser and plays CD, CD-RW and CD-R, with gapless playback and no audible gaps between tracks.
A 2.2 inch display shows the most important information directly on the unit, operation is possible either via the included remote control or the buttons on the housing.
Conversion and headphone outputs
For digital to analogue conversion, Shanling relies on the Cirrus Logic CS43198, supported by two SGM8262 headphone amplifiers.
Via the balanced 4.4 mm output, the CD50 delivers up to 830 mW into 32 Ω, at the unbalanced 3.5 mm output up to 210 mW into 32 Ω are available, enough power for most headphones and in-ear models.
Both outputs achieve a distortion figure of just 0.002%, as well as a dynamic range of up to 126 dB.
Connections for the system
Anyone who wants to use the CD50 as a pure source in an existing system can use the RCA output with a level of 2.6 Vrms, which serves either as a line-out or a pre-amp output.
In addition, a coaxial and an optical digital output are available, to connect the CD50 to an external DAC or an amplifier with a digital input.
